The Importance of Songs - Unwritten

Music and lyrics has always been important to me, from the childhood days of listening to my mum's 45s and 33 1/3s on a portable record player, to my ipod of 5000+ songs now. I use music to cheer me up, I listen to songs to inspire me and I think about some lyrics as a form of meditation or a starting point for a life lesson, and so it can be so much more than a combination of music notes and words on a page to me. One such song is by Natasha Bedingfield which I've heard her sing live, but I use as a reminder that nothing is set in stone for the future and it is my choice as to what road I take, how long for, whether I meander or whether I ask for directions... There is a certain amount of repetition in the song so I have cut out some of the repeats

"I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your innovations
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you...

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inner visions
Feel the rain on your skin...

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
To the years where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten..."
